A tranquil garden space shaped by light, landscape and craftsmanship.

Garden Room Bingham, Nottinghamshire

Our brief was to design and build a bespoke Garden Room in Bingham, Nottinghamshire, for a couple looking for a calm and quiet retreat away from their main house. Set beneath mature trees, the brief was to design a peaceful garden space that felt timeless, comfortable and in keeping with the style of their property. Natural light, thoughtful proportions and high-quality materials were central to the design from the very beginning.

Initial design

Our process began with detailed design discussions to understand how the Garden Room would be used and how it should sit within the wider garden. The clients wanted a sense of seclusion while still enjoying plenty of natural light. To achieve this, we proposed a pitched roof design incorporating Velux skylights. These allow soft, dappled light to filter through the surrounding trees and into the space throughout the day, creating a bright yet tranquil atmosphere.

The aim was to create a garden space that felt like a natural extension of both the home and the landscape, offering a place to slow down, read and relax.

Groundworks and structure

Construction started with an insulated timber subframe, raised off the ground to allow airflow beneath the building and improve long-term durability. A full timber frame structure was then erected, insulated and waterproofed before being boarded, forming a strong and weather tight shell early in the build.

As the walls and roof structure progressed, careful attention was given to alignment, insulation and fixing details. This ensures the Garden Room performs as well as it looks, providing comfort and durability throughout the year. Once the structure was complete, it was fully waterproofed in preparation for the finished roof.

Roofing and external finishes

The roof was finished with cedar shingles, chosen for their natural appearance and the way they age gracefully over time. Four Velux skylights were installed, bringing daylight into the Garden Room while maintaining privacy and a connection to the garden.

Externally, treated timber cladding was fitted to provide protection and a warm, textured finish that complements the surrounding greenery. Doors and windows were then installed, completing the external envelope and giving the building its final form.

Internal works and completion

With the structure sealed, all electrical work was completed, allowing for carefully planned lighting and power suited to a calm reading environment. The final stages included plastering, painting and flooring, transforming the space into a welcoming and comfortable Garden Room that can be enjoyed all year round.

The finished garden space feels light-filled, peaceful and thoughtfully crafted, offering the clients a dedicated retreat within their own garden in Bingham.

The clients were delighted with the completed Garden Room and left us a five-star Google review:
